Suggestions by the parliamentary panel to Agri ministry

Estimate committee submitted a report to Agri ministry, suggesting to declare separate MSP (minimum support price) for selected organic crops and highlighted the role of KVK (krishi vigyan kendra) which will help farmers at the time of challenges like aberrant weather conditions and overuse of chemicals being used by them. Report also suggests to restart the ranking structure where KVK’s will be ranked on the basis of their performance.
Report has provided a detailed roadmap backed by evidence for streamlining natural and organic farming in India.

To ensure that farmers are compensated properly for their efforts, report suggested that existing 20-30% premium should be institutionalised through MSP for key organic crops.

Challenges in Organic farming

Farmers are facing lots of challenges for doing organic farming where the major one is shortage of biofertilizers other essential organic inputs, market linkages, costly organic certification and even if bio-fertilizer is available getting quality one is another major concern for farmers.

Integration of AI and ML

Agri ministry has done lots of effort to integrate farming with advance digital technology like AI and ML-machine learning which helps in providing the information related to weather , pest attack and soil health conditions in advance due to which farmers can take necessary steps and can take the timely decision and protect their crop.

Panel has also asked ministry to go for further collaboration with universities, tech companies, govt. institutes so that these kind of technology can reach to every other farmers who are in remote and disadvantaged areas and can enjoy the benefit of these technologies. Apart from it ministry has also been asked to provide the financial support so that farmers can easily get certifications and helps in the developing infrastructure as well
