Q1 (April-June) witnessed fertilizers sales up by 13% but due to shortage DAP sales declined by 16.7%
According to Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers, sales of key chemical fertilizers including-Urea, DAP, MOP, Complex nutrients (comprising N,P,K & S) have risen from 107.48 lakhs tonne a year ago to 121.9 lakh tonne this Kharif season. Despite the increase by 13% authorities received continuous complaint regarding shortage of fertilizers.
Sales & Imports trend of key chemical fertilizers
Urea:-
Urea saw an increase in the sales by 12.3% witnessing 69.99 lakh tonnes in this kharif season against 62.33 lakh tonne last year
Imports declined by 12.7% from 9.6 lakh tonne last year to 8.38 lakh tonnes this kharif season.
DAP:-
Sales of DAP declines by to 16.1 lakh tonne this kharif season compared to 19.33 lakh tonne last year, down by 16.7%
Imports also saw a similar trend, down by 12.9% from 11.18 lakh tonne last year to 9.74 lakh tonne this kharif season
MOP:-
MOP sales has risen by 46.8% to 4.58 lakh tonne this season against 3.12 lakh tonne last year
Imports on the other hand witnessed a huge fall by 81.3% to 1.11 lakh tonne this Kharif season against 5.94 lakh tonne last year
Complex Fertilizers
Sales up by 34.4% to 30.52 lakh tonne this season compared to 22.7 lakh tonne last Kharif season while imports increased by 48.4% , from 6.43 lt to 9.54 lakh tonne this year
Overall Production of Chemical Fertilizers
Overall production has fallen down by 3.8% from 125.33 lt last year to 120.59 lakh tonne this Kharif season where ureas production has fallen down by 10.2% ,DAP and complex increased by 10.35% and 5.8% respectively.
Experts are suggesting government to come with a better plan for Rabi season so that such kind of problem is not faced again.
