Maize and Millets may witness an increase in acreage this Kharif season
Kharif season may witness an increase in the acreage under Maize and Millets as indicated by the sales of seed and continuous purchase of crop protection chemicals for these crops.
Overall aspects
Farmers are spending more money particularly because of its MSP which is clearly depicted in government data- showing 11% increase in maize acreage. According to Mr. Satyender Singh ,CEO of CCPL , area under millet is increasing continuously in states of Haryana and Rajasthan and he also stated that their sales of millet seeds if good this season
He also told about the trend of other crops like in cotton crop also an area may increase because of illegal herbicidal tolerant bt seeds being sold in some parts of the country.
Issues faced by the farmer
As the area under crop has increased farmers have already started to face the problem of labour shortage which has ultimately resulted an increase in the sales of herbicides and it is also becoming beneficial for the company as well
As said by Mr. Singh that the company has gained 40% increase in the sales of herbicides and he believes the trend will witness a continuous increase in the future as well.
