Three fertilizer companies namely KRIBCHO, CIL, IPL has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia Maaden for importing 3.1 mn tonnes of DAP every year for the next five years starting from this year because of the ongoing shortage of DAP in the country.
High level meeting occured between Ministry of Fertilizer, India and Vice Minister for Mining Affairs on the Saudi side ,from India it was led by Union Fertilizer Minister JP Nadda.
The agreement also says that India can expand the contract by another five years after the expiration of it and can also include urea import in future if India faces shortage of it.
DAP import from Saudi Arabia last year (2024-25) was 1.9 mt climbing up 17 % from 2023-24 , according to source of Ministry of fertilizer.
All this came from the rising concerns of the shortage of DAP and Urea from states of Punjab, UP, Telanagana , Rajasthan in the current Kharif season.
