Agri Minister Chouhan launches probe into faulty herbicide, assures farmers of strict action

Chouhan ordered strict actions against selling fake agri inputs

After receiving numerous complaints from farmers about a particular herbicide damaging soybean crops in Madhya Pradesh, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited the fields in Chirkheda village on Monday for a surprise inspection.

Chouhan found that the soybean crops were burned due to the application of a particular herbicide, despite it providing relief from weeds. He has already ordered the formation of a team to investigate the matter.

Inquiry Panel

An inquiry panel has been formed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), headed by JS Mishra, Director of the Jabalpur-based Directorate of Weed Research.
The panel also includes SRK Singh, Head of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Raisen, the Deputy Director of the State Agriculture Department, and the Director of Atari Zone 9.

Chouhan had ordered the panel to inspect the matter, conduct regular raids, and visit farmers’ fields periodically.
He also informed the panel about the problems faced by farmers due to fake agricultural inputs being sold in the market.
