Farmers get ₹3,900 crore Crop Insurance payout from centre

Centre disbursed ₹3900 crore to farmers as crop insurance claims

On Monday, nearly 35 lakh farmers received ₹3900 crore against their crop insurance claim disbursed by Centre which were transferred digitally under (PMFBY) Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna.
Chouhan also declared that the farmers of Rajasthan would soon receive water from the Yamuna, Chambal, and Indus rivers.

Changes in earlier scheme

According to the earlier scheme, a farmer could claim insurance only if the crops of the entire village were damaged. Under the new scheme, an individual farmer can also make a claim even if the rest of the village’s crops are normal.

PMFBY, launched in 2016, has so far paid out ₹2.12 lakh crore to farmers out of ₹2.57 lakh crore collected by insurance companies.

The Centre paid 7.5% of the premium collected in 2023–24, amounting to ₹19,663 crore, against the ₹21,005 crore premium collected from farmers, through PMFBY and other schemes.

Through the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi initiative, the government has disbursed ₹3.75 lakh crore via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)
